Legislative Exchange and Cooperation
The Ministry of Government Legislation has actively cooperated with legislative organizations of other countries to promote the dissemination of Korean laws and to jointly respond to pending legislative issues. Furthermore, the Ministry of Government Legislation is supporting Korean citizens and businesses to expand overseas by providing translations upon their request.
Legislative Exchange and Cooperation
The Ministry of Government Legislation strives to broaden legislative exchange and cooperation by providing information regarding the current status of legislative administration and legal information to diverse foreign legislative institutions. We also endeavor to discuss future cooperation with other countries for fostering mutually beneficial partnerships. As of 2024, we have signed 31 memoranda of understanding for cooperation with 16 countries, including Indonesia, Vietnam, Mongolia, Thailand and Uzbekistan.
Asian Legislative Experts Symposium (ALES)
The Ministry of Government Legislation has hosted the “Asian Legislative Experts Symposium (ALES)” every year since 2013 to invite legislative experts from Asian countries to discuss various legislative issues under the slogan, “Asia Shares Legislative Experience.” We have held ALES 11 times from 2013 to 2023. Thanks to the interest and participation of other Asian countries, ALES has served as a discussion venue to come up with strategies for social and economic development of every Asian country.
Support for Strengthening Legislative Capability
The Ministry of Government Legislation supports Asian countries to strengthen legislative capability of the persons in charge of legislative affairs so that they can respond more appropriately to legislative issues. We have conducted a project to invite public officials of Indonesia to Korea to share Korea's legislative experience and know-hows during the period of 2023 to 2024.
Dissemination of Korean Legal Information
The Ministry of Government Legislation facilitates the accessibility of Korean laws and regulations for foreign legislative institutions by providing translations in English and enhances the quality of translations through rigorous supervision. These efforts allow us to timely respond to inquiries concerning Korean legal systems.
World Laws Information Service
The Ministry of Government Legislation runs “World Laws Information Center”(world.moleg.go.kr), providing citizens and businesses with worldwide legal information in order to support overseas economic activities such as exports and overseas expansion. This system provides: ① The original and translated texts of the laws of 56 countries, ② article-type contents providing trending global legal information, ③ customized service for users in need of overseas laws and regulation.
MOLEG aims to promote export and economic growth by meeting the needs of citizens and businesses performing overseas exports and overseas expansion. We are collaborating with related ministries(e.g. Ministry of Culture) to provide legal information based on industry sectors such as contents, cosmetics, etc.
